Meet the Teacher Helping Keep This Garden Alive!

Continuing our story, we’re proud to introduce Rachel Leach—the heart and soul behind the school garden at Silver Stage Middle School!

This inspiring journey began 12 years ago when Wendy from Healthy Communities Coalition secured a grant to create school gardens across local schools. She brought together farmers and teachers to cultivate more than just crops—she cultivated community, learning, and resilience.

That’s where Rachel Leach stepped in. As a dedicated teacher, Rachel quickly became one of the garden’s strongest champions. Even after the original grant ended, she never gave up. With the help of local farmers Marsha and Steven from Churchill Butte Organics, Rachel has continued to nurture the garden purely out of love for her students and community.

💚 Thanks to Wendy’s vision and Rachel’s unwavering commitment, the garden still thrives today, providing students with hands-on education and fresh, homegrown food.
