AmeriCorps + AmeriCorps Vista
Every year, AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Vista enrolls more than 200,000 individuals to serve organizations, making a difference in communities across America.
Healthy Communities Coalition AmeriLIFT Program is focused on teaching and expanding Financial Literacy within our communities.
AmeriCorps service is a national service that benefits local communities throughout the country, specifically our community. AmeriCorps service is performed by volunteers at non-profit organizations that seek to make a difference in their community.
In addition to teaching Financial Literacy workshops to youth and adults, our AmeriCorps members support The Boys & Girls Club of Mason Valley, HCC Dayton Food Pantry, HCC Silver Springs Food Pantry, HCC Yerington Food Pantry, and Nye Communities Coalition in Pahrump, Nevada.
All of our AmeriCorps members also strive to become Community Health Workers within their communities during their service. This training helps members share resources and facilitate access to resources and services that community members need help navigating.
As the HCC AmeriLIFT program, our members have contributed over 5,300 volunteer hours to their communities this term (started 9/2024). With the members’ dedication, ingenuity, and support, host sites have been able to expand their mission and increase the effectiveness of their scope. The HCC AmeriLIFT members deserve a shout out of gratitude and support for the service they give! THANK YOU!
Bringing Out the Best of America
The addition of AmeriCorps members has significantly impacted our community through the Healthy Communities Coalition (HCC). These dedicated individuals have made a difference in schools, community gardens, and support for homebound seniors. They have also contributed to important initiatives like prescription drug roundups. Many AmeriCorps members started as local volunteers and have since pursued further education and advanced in their careers.
The development of a strong Nevada Community Health Worker Association within HCC has enhanced the diversity of our workforce both locally and statewide. Community Health Workers (CHWs) play various roles at HCC, including providing prevention education in schools and food pantries and serving as Resource Coordinators on Safe Schools Professional teams. They conduct wellness checks for vulnerable populations, such as seniors, and collaborate with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine on Rural Outreach Clinics, offering primary care, women’s health services, and immunizations. CHWs also provide education on oral health and connect individuals to necessary referrals within the school system. As trusted community members, CHWs are essential in linking people to services and strengthening relationships within the community.
