Healthy Communities Coalition FEBRUARY BREAKFAST MEETING
HCC hosts a public breakfast meeting every other month at the Silver Springs Community Center. Each meeting includes introductions and updates from all attendees, special guest speakers, and discussion and updates about collaborative efforts to increase access to health care, nutritious food, workforce development, and prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use.
The next meeting is Thursday, February 13th, at 9 a.m. at the Silver Springs Community Center on the left side of the Senior Center building at 2945 Fort Churchill Street, Silver Springs, NV 89429. ***Please park on the side of the building and on the street to preserve the parking in front of the building for our seniors who use the Senior Center.

Roseman University College of Medicine’s EMPOWERED program supports pregnant and postpartum individuals who use or have used opioids or stimulants for any reason. Shannon Lepe of Roseman University will give an overview of the program, which is designed to empower individuals to be prepared for the birth of their babies and to thrive as a caregiver. EMPOWERED is a recovery-oriented program that combines medications for opioid use disorder with education, counseling, and peer support services.
Jack Minshew, Nevada Care Connection’s Outreach and Community Partner Manager, will give an overview of NVCC, administered by the Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division, to improve access to services and support. He will describe the Medicare Assistance Program, the State Health Insurance Assistance Program, the Senior Medicare Patrol, and the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act.
Healthy Communities is comprised of dozens of local, state, federal, and tribal group partners, community volunteers, and staff members, all working together on a shared mission to strengthen communities in the Lyon and Storey regions by increasing access to 1) health care and prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use; 2) nutritious food; and 3) sustainable community-based opportunities that serve the common good and strengthen local assets and self-reliance.
