RHNI Greenhouse

In February 2021, Healthy Communities Coalition signed an agreement to lease the former Dayton Valley Aquaponics greenhouse facility in Dayton, Nevada. The building became part of HCC’s ongoing food systems work and RHNI was born. The greenhouse – a 30,000 square foot facility with growing space, offices, and 2 kitchen/ prep spaces – was the perfect facility to expand upon HCC’s long-time commitment to food systems and food security in Western Nevada.

Getting started wasn’t easy. Nearly fifty volunteers from around the community stepped up to help prepare the facility for the first growing season. The ongoing contributions of time and expertise from our volunteer network keep the facility running. Thank you volunteers!

Currently, the RHNI Greenhouse is growing fresh fruits and vegetables for HCC’s three food pantriesfarmers markets, and local restaurants and distributors. Future plans for RHNI include a commercial kitchen, vegetable nursery, community garden and cooking workshops, food demos, youth internship opportunities, and a summer workstudy program.

Volunteer at the Greenhouse

We cheerfully welcome volunteers on a drop-in basis every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am-4 pm or by appointment (not including Federal Holidays). You don’t need any prior knowledge about gardening or agriculture to volunteer! We will be happy to show you the ropes and our staff is happy to help you learn about the facility.

If you have a group that would like to volunteer (Scouts, church group, team, etc…), please contact Justin to set up a time for your organization to come help out!

All volunteers must sign a waiver/release of liability. You can download the volunteer waiver here.

Buy Fresh, Local Produce

RHNI sells our fresh produce at local farmers markets (Carson City Farmers Market, Dayton Farmers Market, Stagecoach Junction Farmers Market) during the summer months. We encourage you to check out our booth at the markets listed above! To help us fulfill our mission of alleviating food insecurity in our region, a portion of our harvest is donated to food pantries in Lyon County. We also sell direct to local restaurants year-round through our online ordering portal. If you are a local restaurant owner/manager (Carson City, Reno, Virginia City, Minden, Gardnerville) and would like to order from us, contact Jeff to set up an account.
