Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ February meeting is Thursday, February 9 at 9am, via Zoom (connection details below). HCC’s public meeting includes coalition and group partner updates and introductions, discussion of matters of regional importance to health and wellness, plus presentations by guest speakers.
This month, Healthy Communities’ Executive Director Wendy Madson will give an update on the nonprofit’s Yerington Food Pantry, which serves more than 400 individuals. Unfortunately, the severe rain and snow storms of the last few months have taken a toll on the older building that was being used as a food pantry. The Yerington Pantry is now in immediate need of a new home and has a fundraising campaign to that end.
The meeting will also feature two guest speakers: Char Frost, Statewide Family Network Director and Sabrina Peck, Prevention and Resource Coordinator with Healthy Communities Coalition.
Char Frost will describe the services and mission of Nevada PEP, a “parent-driven” organization whose mission is “to increase the opportunities for home, community and school success for children with disabilities including those who are at risk or who have serious emotional disturbances, their families and their service providers, through education, encouragement and empowerment activities.”
The second guest speaker will be Sabrina Peck of Healthy Communities. She will explain the benefits of creating clean air policies with the business community and in healthcare and other settings.

Healthy Communities Coalition (HCC) is a private nonprofit that uses a collective impact model. (Common Agenda + Multiple Sectors = Collaborative Impact). HCC is a collaboration of people who imagine a future where all have the opportunity to live healthy, vital lives. How do we “reverse engineer” to get to that preferred future? By supporting resident-centered change, stimulating active citizenship, strengthening resident-led organizations, and by practicing acceptance and love rooted in the belief that every person has a unique and important gift to offer.
