Man walking across U.S. to raise mental health awareness passes through Lyon County Nevada

Did you see Joe Hall walking through Lyon County, Nevada over the last few days? He’s nearly at the end of his walk across the entire U.S., from the east coast to the west coast, to raise awareness for mental health support and suicide prevention. He stopped by Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ Dayton offices this morning. If you’d like to follow his journey, Joe Hall is on Facebook under “Hall Across the Country.”

Below is a partial list of some of our area’s mental health support and suicide prevention services:

*Nevada Crisis Line at 775-784-8090 is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

*Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention, call 775-784-8085 or text LISTEN to 839863. Services are free, confidential and 24/7. http://www.crisiscallcenter.org

*Veterans Crisis Line 1-800-273-8255 – Press 1

*NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Information Line is (800) 950-NAMI. This information and referral service is available Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., EST.The Nevada Warmline is a stigma-free, non-crisis, no cost peer support text service for adults. The text is 775-241-4212, from 8am to 10pm seven days a week. You will speak one-on-one with a Peer Wellness Operator. The Warmline is confidential and staffed by trained peers in recovery who provide support to individuals impacted by life stressors or mental illness. Phone, text and video call options are available.

*For teens and younger adults, there is the Nevada Teen Support Text Line. It’s a stigma-free, non-crisis peer support text service for adolescents and young adults aged 14-24 years old. Youth can text 775-296-8336 from noon to 10pm seven days a week to be connected for a one-on-one text conversation with a young adult Peer Wellness Operator. The text line is confidential and staffed by trained young adult peers who provide support from lived experience to youth impacted by mental illness or life stressors.
