Linda Flaherty of Healthy Communities Coalition (HCC) will read Dayton author Lisa Selmi’s children’s book “Oscar’s Big Adventure” at the Silver City Schoolhouse on Tuesday August 2, 2022 at 10am! Afterward Linda, who is the Project Director for Healthy Communities’ Rural Health and Nutrition Initiative, will expand on the dog’s experience with receiving “treats” by talking about healthy snacks for people and how to grow your own. Linda will share fresh produce from HCC’s River Road greenhouse with parents and children after the storytime. Free toothbrushes and floss kits from HCC will also be available.
“Oscar’s Big Adventure” is an endearing story about an aging dog who reminds us that we are never too old to seek new friendships and adventures.
In addition, CCI’s Nevada Families First, a free and voluntary home visiting program serving Storey, Lyon, Mineral, Carson and Tonopah, will have a resource booth at the event. Nevada Families First includes developmental screenings and resources for parents and guardians. Parents enjoy learning ways they can support their child’s literacy and development through play.
This special storytime event is sponsored by Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey in partnership with the Silver City Volunteer Library.
