Meditation with Brian Schorn July 5

Silver City, Nevada – The current artist-in-residence in Silver City, Brian Schorn, is also a certified meditation instructor. On Tuesday July 5 at 10am, he is offering teens and adults a free session in Calm-Abiding meditation, which is used in mindfulness practices.

No experience necessary. Use a chair (provided) or bring a cushion if you prefer to be on the floor.

The session will take place at the Silver City School House community center at 385 High Street, Silver City, Nevada 89428 (3 miles south of Virginia City).

About Brian Schorn’s art, writing and music: In addition to being a certified meditation instructor, Brian Schorn has Master in Fine Arts degrees in photography, creative writing, graphic design, and electronic music and currently teaches art and design at Alpena Community College. He “approaches his art as a contemplative practice which integrates seamlessly with the rest of his life.”

Sponsorship: The meditation session is part of Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ annual series of summer activities, with different topics each Tuesday morning at 10am. The meditation session is offered in collaboration with the local Resident Artist Program.

About the Resident Artist Program in Silver City: This visiting artist program provides a way for those from other parts of the U.S. and the world to engage with the community and the region through visual art, music and poetry. Selected artists reside for up to 3 months at McCormick House, a geodesic dome designed in the 1970s by Nevada artist and professor Jim McCormick. As part of the residency, visiting artists offer free public performances, exhibitions, readings, workshops, etc.
