Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties hosts it’s September meeting on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 9am via Zoom (connection details below). The public meeting includes member updates and introductions, discussion of matters of regional importance to health and wellness, plus presentations by guest speakers. Special presentations this month will address the Rural Health and Nutrition Initiative (RHNI), and the Fernley Community Foundation.

Cody Wagner, Chair of the Fernley Community Foundation, will describe some of the goals and recent progress of the Foundation. The nonprofit organization works to “build Fernley’s future through improved community facilities, arts and culture, recreation, education and social interaction for citizens of all ages.”

Cortney Bloomer, Food Systems Manager with Healthy Communities, will give an overview of the Rural Health and Nutrition Initiative (RHNI) and the large greenhouse in Dayton where fresh, local produce is grown for the Coalition’s food pantry guests and farmers markets. This month RHNI is celebrating September as Fruit and Veggie Month in Nevada. One of RHNI’s goals is to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables for the residents of Lyon and Storey counties.
