The annual robotics/ engineering mini-camp for girls and boys ages 8-14 and their parents takes place Tuesday, August 3 at 10am at the Silver City Schoolhouse at 385 High Street, Silver City, Nevada 89428. Please reserve your spot for this limited space event by emailing Quest Lakes at quest@theodata.com.
The Society of Women Engineers and FIRST Nevada lead the popular activity each summer as part of Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) program. The Silver City Volunteer Library is co-hosting the mini-camp.
Children will compete in an exciting SumoBot competition after they write a program to make their robots go forward and back and drive in a square. Then they’ll build a robot “arm” and form teams to compete with their SumoBots!
The mini-camp includes snacks and hand-outs about what engineers do, how to become an engineer, and how to find kids’ robotics and engineering clubs and activities in the Northern Nevada region.
Where is Silver City? Silver City is located in Lyon County within a federally designated historic landmark. The mountain community is 3 miles from Virginia City, 7 miles from Dayton, or 12 miles from Carson City.
