Silver City, Nevada – Parents and their children ages 8 to 12 are invited to come up to the Comstock town of Silver City for fun activities focusing on Space Exploration Science and NASA. The event takes place Tuesday, July 27 at 10am at the Silver City Schoolhouse at 385 High Street, Silver City, Nevada 89428. The presenter, Donald M. Scott, spent a decade with the Aerospace Education Services Program where he worked with NASA astronauts and scientists to develop K-12 activities and present those lessons to teachers and students in Nevada and Montana.
Mr. Scott will lead a series of hands-on activities – from rockets to rocks and beyond – to help kids learn basic principles of Space Exploration Science.
The morning will also include a brief overview of Mars analogue research in Nevada, plus a mention of NASA’s drone helicopter called “Dragonfly” which is on track to sample and examine sites around Saturn’s icy moon Titan by 2034.

Nevada has many connections to space exploration and NASA. For instance, Mars analogue research has been done in Nevada; the first woman NASA-JPL Mission Controller resides in Carson City; and UNR’s Desert Research Institute is a member of the Space Grant Consortium, a national network of universities working to expand opportunities for Americans to understand and participate in NASA’s aeronautics and space projects.
