HCC Seeks VISTA and AmeriCorps Applicants

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties, a nonprofit, is welcoming inquiries about openings for both a part time AmeriCorps service member, and a full time VISTA service member in Dayton, Nevada. Details can be found below:

VISTA: Would you like to serve your community by becoming a full time VISTA member? Your year of service (April 2021 -August 2021) will be in Dayton, Nevada with Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties and will include a biweekly stipend, plus a choice of an Education Award to pay for college/ career training ($6,000) or an End of Service Stipend of $1,800. You will be helping to strengthen the food system in our region by collaborating with local farmers to promote access to local food, researching best practices for inclusive food systems, and coordinating and recruiting volunteers in order to increase access to local, healthy, affordable food for all. AmeriCorps: Would you like to serve your community by becoming a part time AmeriCorps member? Your service will begin as soon as you complete background checks and successful interviews and will last through August 2021 in Dayton, Nevada with the nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition. You’ll receive a biweekly stipend and valuable skills training in sustainable gardening and agricultural practices and nutrition education. You’ll serve in a large greenhouse setting with Healthy Communities’ food systems team to create opportunities for the public to learn through hands-on gardening and nutrition experiences for the public. You will learn about organic gardening and sustainable agriculture while doing standard garden tasks such as weeding, harvesting, transplanting, seeding, cultivation, composting, etc. During summer months, you’ll assist at Healthy Communities’ weekly Dayton farmer’s market.
