Job Title: Healthy Aging Program Coordinator

Location: 209 Dayton Valley Rd., Dayton, NV, travel required throughout Lyon County (grant will reimburse mileage).

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey County is excited to hire a Healthy Aging Program Coordinator. The successful candidate will have experience working with diverse populations, particularly seniors, in service delivery and program coordination. This position works as a member of the SNAP-Ed team administering the Stay Strong, Stay Healthy Program and the Seniors Eating Well Program at three (3) sites across Lyon County.

The Stay Strong, Stay Healthy Program (SSSH) is an evidenced-based eight week program for older adults that meets the recommendation for healthy muscle strength. SSSH is an evidenced-based strength program for older adults developed by University of Missouri Extension researchers and specialists with the goal of improving health and quality of life for seniors. Seniors Eating Well (SEW) is a curriculum intended to improve the nutrition and health status of middle-aged and older adults through nine lessons focused on important nutrition topics for seniors.

The successful candidate will work with senior service providers and agency partners to establish SSSH and SEW programs at Senior Centers in Lyon County. This position will be responsible for class scheduling, recruiting class participants, delivering program curriculum, training senior volunteers as instructors, developing partnerships and relationships with partner agencies and participants, and providing healthy snacks for program participants. The Healthy Aging Program Coordinator will collaborate with other SNAP-Ed Staff to provide program enhancements such as gardens and intergenerational learning opportunities and will be responsible for providing program reports.

Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university in public health, health management, exercise physiology, nutrition or a related discipline; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
 
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • None. However, the successful applicant will be required to attend trainings on the program and complete social justice training and other trainings as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of:

  • Writing reports
  • Program delivery and evaluation
  • Basic spreadsheet & database utilization
  • Ability to perform balance and strength exercises as included in the curriculum

Skill in:

  • Excellent phone, email and instant messaging communication skills.
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Microsoft Office Suite, GoogleDrive/Calendar, and file management

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Under General Supervision – Incumbents at this level are given assignments and objectives that are governed by specifically outlined work methods and a sequence of steps, which are explained in general terms. Immediate supervision is not consistent, but checks are integrated into work processes and/or reviews are frequent enough to ensure compliance with instructions that program objectives are being met.
