Healthy Communities Meets Sept 14th

Regional Meeting – You’re invited to the Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ (HCC) monthly breakfast meeting on Thurs Sept 14th at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center.

Retirement Announcements: We will also be honoring Peggy Edwards for many years of compassionate service and outstanding professionalism that has had an enormous and positive impact on our region.

This month guest speakers are Heather Benson of Lyon Human Services’ employment programs; Kallie Day of Community Chest Inc’s Adultworks, an employment/training program; and Kelly Ibarra of CCI’s domestic violence assistance, employment and displaced homemakers services for the Dayton Fernley and Virginia City regions.

Other Agenda Items: There will also be updates on some of HCC’s intiatives to increase access to affordable, sustainably grown local food; to health care services, wellness education and ATOD use prevention; and to continuing education, job skills and leadership training, meaningful volunteer opportunities, and arts in public spaces (community development).

What is the Healthy Communities Coalition? HCC is a private nonprofit composed of hundreds of dedicated community volunteers and dozens of diverse group partners working together to strengthen communities and share resources. The Coalition convenes for public meetings on the second Thursday of each month at 9am. Working together to achieve common goals, representatives from local, state, federal and tribal agencies join community volunteers to carry out strategies that increase access to affordable, local food; Ā health care services; job skills and leadership training; wellness education; arts in public spaces, etc.
