Dayton, Nevada – Everyone is welcome at the first Chamber mixer at our new location! Come check out our new digs at 209 Dayton Valley Road on Thursday, June 15th. Special thanks to USDA Rural Development for the loan that made the expansion possible!
The fun starts at 5:30pm, and there will be a Ribbon Cutting at 6pm.
Directions: turn onto Dayton Valley Road at the stop light on Highway 50, go over the bridge, and Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties, and our Dayton Food Pantry, are on the right.
Late this winter, Healthy Communities moved its main offices from the Dayton Community Center to a new property with storage buildings, a pavilion for events, office space, room for our Dayton Food Pantry, etc.
Staff offices are now located at 209 Dayton Valley Road in Dayton (near the bridge and closer to Dayton’s K-12 schools, senior center and public library).
Executive Director Wendy Madson explained that staff and volunteers are “settling in, and we’re excited about all the possibilities to serve the region with this larger space.” The Coalition – composed of community volunteers, a small staff, a board, and dozens of local, state, federal and tribal group partners – has plans for working with residents of Lyon and Storey communities to further develop strategies that help people help themselves, and strengthen their own communities.
Some future goals, once a few improvements are made, include expanding a regional Healthy Food Hub to increase access to local and affordable food, renting the pavilion area for events such as weddings, and expanding job training for adults and teens.
