Silver Springs, Nevada – Please join us for the October breakfast meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties at the Silver Springs Community Center on Thursday October 13th at 9am.
This month’s public meeting will include a 1.5 hour training on Trauma Informed Care by Grant Clowers, LCSW, Director of Clinical Services at Carson Tahoe Behavioral Health Services. Trauma-informed organizations, programs, and services are based on an understanding of the vulnerabilities or triggers of trauma survivors that traditional service delivery approaches may exacerbate, so that these services and programs can be more supportive and avoid re traumatization.
In addition, Michael Palzes from Nevada Legal Services will speak about the Ryan White Project.
We’ll also give updates on lots of good news, such as Kathy McIntosh’s Points of Light Award for her work engaging volunteers with HCC’s Silver Stage Food Pantry; the successful RAM free clinic; school salad bars throughout Lyon; the new Silver Springs Arts Hub; the wonderful addition of 10 new AmeriCorps staff serving Yerington, Fernley, Dayton and Silver Springs areas; the Walmart donation to the Dayton and Silver Stage food pantries; the upcoming Turkey Trot 5K in Fernley; the Behavioral Health Task Force in Lyon and its impact on jail diversion and re-integration into the community; the regional Health and Wellness Hub in Lyon and Storey; the expansion of Comstock Youth Works and CLYC’s Project Success into Yerington and the continued success of both in Fernley, Dayton, and Silver Springs, and much more…
