Silver Springs, Nevada – The public is invited to join the Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ monthly meeting with discussion and action planning on a wide range of issues of regional importance on Thursday, September 8th at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center.
What is Healthy Communities? Healthy Communities Coalition is a regional, private nonprofit composed of community volunteers of all ages, plus diverse local, state, federal and tribal groups, a small staff and a board of directors.
The Coalition uses strategies that include building hope, empowering people to help themselves and their communities, encouraging people and communities to recognize and build on their strengths, all while practicing inclusion of all people and the belief that TOGETHER, there is enough.
Intersecting Hubs: This approach has allowed the Coalition to engage diverse group partners, plus community volunteers of all ages and all walks of life, in initiatives broadly grouped around 1) a Healthy Food Hub (increasing access to affordable, locally grown food), 2) a Health and Wellness Hub (increasing access to affordable medical, behavioral health and dental care services, prevention and education), and 3) a Community Development Hub (job skills and leadership development, volunteer opportunities, arts in public spaces, etc.)
Monthly Meetings: The Coalition convenes on the second Thursday of each month at 9:00 am, usually at the Silver Springs Community Center (location may vary). These breakfast meetings are open to the public and all are welcome.
Please call the Coalition office at 775-246-7550, or see the Coalition website at healthycomm.org to verify time and location for meetings.
