Healthy Communities Coalition’s Silver Stage Food Pantry will be closed December 23-25 and from December 30, 2015 through January 3, 2016 so volunteers can spend the holidays with their families. Please call 577-9161 for more information. Happy Holidays, everyone! Additional details about the Pantry can be found below the photo.
What Does the Pantry Do? Residents of the Silver Springs area work with Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties in volunteer service to keep the pantry going strong. Volunteers range from the very young to elders, and come from all walks of life, united by the belief that no one should go hungry.
Emergency food boxes are provided during weekday hours (Mon-Fri from 10am-4pm). Food is packed and delivered each Friday for local students through a school “Backpack Program”, providing 64 students K-12 with food during the weekends. There are also several opportunties conveniently located next to the Pantry, including a community garden and hoop house, gardening lessons, a Little Free Library book exchange, an indoor farmers market which accepts WIC, SNAP, cash, etc as payment, and the Jackrabbit Junction buyers club, with an inventory of natural, organic and local foods.
In addition, the nonprofit Community Chest, Inc offers employment assistance onsite at the Pantry with a staff person who can help clients locate job openings, and connect with job training opportunities.
