June 23rd Fun Fair for Kids Ages 3 to 6

Silver City, Nevada ? The always popular ?Tune into Kids? arts and science fun fair hosted by United Way is back in Silver City again this summer! The fair, which includes lunch provided by United Way, is for parents and their children ages 3 to 6.  Any family from the region is welcome to attend on Tuesday, June 23rd from 10am to noon in the town?s park at 385 High Street. Parents are asked to stay and enjoy the hands-on activities with their children. Space for the fair is limited. Participants will receive free books through United Way, participate in hands-on science fun, and help paint and decorate a new ?Little Free Library.?  Little Free Libraries create ways for neighbors to share their favorite books. In its most basic form, a Little Free Library is a box full of books where anyone may stop by and pick up a book or two, and bring back another book to share.

The Fun Fair is part of a free summer-long program that will also include  a bike rodeo with Western Safe Routes to Schools, engineering activities with Society of Women Engineers, science activities with Jim Barcellos of 4-H and UNCE, poetry and music lessons with visiting artist Brian Schorn, etc. Call Quest Lakes at 287-7598 for dates and times.

Every summer Silver City organizes a free STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) program for Northwestern Nevada area children and their parents. The annual program began in 2003 and has been offered each summer since, with varying themes, but always involving key STEAM concepts.

The yearly youth summer program is made possible, in part, by Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey, plus guest teachers from many regional groups such as United Way, 4-H, Society of Women Engineers, Western Safe Routes, etc and local fundraisers, donations and volunteer work from dozens of Silver City residents and groups. The community of Silver City, which is located in one of Nevada?s National Historic Landmarks , launched the popular children?s summer program in 2003.
