Free Cooking Class and Dinner in Dayton on March 23rd

Dayton, Nevada – Our next free cooking class will be at the Dayton Community Center on Monday, March 23rd at 5:30pm. Please join us!

You’ll learn how to prepare an angel hair pasta, ham and baby peas dish, as well as a dessert, beginning at 5:30pm. We’ll sit down and enjoy the meal together at 6:15pm.

These monthly cooking demonstrations are open to anyone who would like to learn to cook nutritious meals using affordable and local ingredients that result in tasty dishes.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey sponsors FREE cooking demos for the community once a month, with recipes based on the varying schedule for USDA commodity foods ingredients.

Instructors are Rebekah Stetson, farmer and Community Health Advocate with Healthy Communities , and dietitian Kim Mason.

During past cooking classes, participants learned to prepare pancit, Alaska Salmon Albondiga, chicken pot pie, lima bean soup, salmon patties, broccoli kale bacon slaw, pumpkin corn muffins, pork and beans, lamb, and a high-nutrient grain called quinoa.

The cooking demos and dinners are part of the Coalition’s “healthy food hub”, a regional effort to improve access to and demand for locally and sustainably grown, healthy, and affordable food.

  1. Can we just show up or do we need to RSVP? Is this only for adults or can children come too (age limit)? Are the classes always on Mondays or does it vary each month? Thanks!
